Australian born, I’d trained and worked as an Early Childhood Educator, until we were given the opportunity to move to Asia. The short-term assignment for my husband’s work was to be based in Kuala Lumpur, so we packed up our family of 4 and relocated to Asia. 18 years on and our family of 6 have embraced the chance to travel and live overseas.
Staying home while my children were growing up, I found myself looking for a creative outlet. I looked into combining my skills to find a way I could work from home. I’d always had a passion for baking, sewing, upholstery and planning “over the top” parties. So I began a special occasions cake business which I ran for a few years, but still felt the need for more creativity. I decided to expand my business and include children’s party supplies and complete party planning packages, which also led to bridal showers and baby showers.
Living in Asia and The Netherlands also gave me the opportunities to be involved in the International communities, helping organise school fundraisers, social events, balls and Christmas markets. As each event finished, I was always looking out for the next event. This motivated me to look into formal training and qualifications in the event industry. After much research, I decided to enrol with the UK Academy of Wedding and Event Planners. Studying online with the academy and locations globally appealed to me. I know that where ever our next move may take us, I will have support from the tutors and fellow students across the globe.
