UK Campus – December Student of the Month

written by

Jac

Well before she was chosen to be our Academy Apprentice, I had the opportunity to interview Martha Tobyn for this month’s Student of the Month feature.  You can read my interview with UK Academy of Wedding & Event Planning student Martha here. But I wanted to share a study tip from Martha with you, as many of you may find her advice valuable at this time of year, especially if you will be taking some time off around the holidays.

Here is Martha’s Study Tip:

“Try to keep up momentum. I work full time and I find it easier to come straight home and do an hour or two before relaxing for the night.
And if you’ve had to take time out from studying because of a holiday or busy period for example, get back into the flow with a creative exercise. Do a mood board, or go out and take pictures to get the visual stimulation and ideas going. I had time off recently to move house, but doing the Pinterest boards and entering the Pantone competition has really helped me get back into my working routine.”

Creativity and Discipline

This is great advice from Martha!  Sometimes, when working in a creative environment, it can be tempting to think that there is no place for a disciplined and organised approach to your work. But whether it is with your study, or work as a Wedding or Event Planner/Designer, you will find that routines and discipline can actually nurture creativity.  I have recently had the amazing experience of working on a project with a very creative team (stay tuned for something very special in the new year relating to our global brand).  The team I am working with pay incredible attention to detail in everything they do, right down to how they manage the project and I have seen how creativity flourishes in this type of working environment.
This is our last Student of the Month for 2016.  Thank you to everyone who shared their story with me across the year.  It is always an incredibly enjoyable experience for me, to find out more about each of our students.  I look forward to sharing more of these stories with you in 2017 and invite any of our students, at whatever stage they are in their course or career, to contact me if you have a story to share.
