From Bride to Wedding Business Owner

This week we meet Australian Academy Student, Simone Ross.  Simone was inspired to become a Wedding Planner after planning her own wedding.  We know that so many of you feel inspired to do the same.  However we have also discovered that many newly-weds feel embarrassed for feeling this way, for fear people may think they just can’t let their day as a Bride, or Groom, go.  But we know from our own success stories, that this is not the case.  In fact our very own Advisory Board member, Marie Cruz De Vera founded the highly successful The Style Co. after her own wedding and the frustration of finding a lack of unique options for customising the design of it.
Becoming a Wedding professional because you discovered a passion and talent, after planning your own, is perfectly natural and a great way for you get your start.  Let’s meet Simone and find out why she took her passion for her wedding day a step further into her own business.
Simone congratulations on the launch of Elegant Dream Weddings.  Can you tell us why  you decided to become a Wedding Planner after your own wedding a year ago?
How I fell in love with weddings was simply because I didn’t know if planners existed, so I thought what a great way to show my skills and knowledge with other brides. And basically be there to support the brides and grooms and to show them wedding planning isn’t stressful, it should fun, loving and exciting; it’s the biggest day of your life!  I sat down with my now husband and my Mum, and asked them the question; do you think I could become a wedding planner? And the first thing they both said was absolutely, go for it; show other brides that it is not stressful and scary.

So from there that’s when I decided to start my own business ‘Elegant Dream Wedding & Events’ and I signed on with the Australian Academy of Wedding & Event Planning doing a Diploma in Wedding Planning, Styling and Design and I’m having a absolute ball.  I love every minute of it!

Being a Bride planning your own wedding is very different from planning weddings for others.  What have you found to be the key differences?

The key differences I found was as a planner you know more information and you have all the right resources; which makes it easier to decide on what works better, to suit the couple’s theme.  Where as being a bride you rely on websites, family members and asking people on social media for assistance.
I am often contacted by recent Brides and Grooms, who feel a little embarrassed to have fallen so in love with Wedding Planning, that they are now considering a career as a Wedding Planner. It is almost as if they hadn’t considered it as a real job before they did it themselves.  What would you say to someone like you, who is feeling as though they have found something they love to do and want to keep doing it?
I would say absolutely, go for it; it was the best decision I made (other than marrying the man of my dreams!).  Make sure however that you surround yourself with people who love, support, believe and have faith in you.  Some days may feel harder than others, but once all the hard work plays off, all the benefits will start falling your way, you just need to keep calm and never stop believing.  Enjoy your new adventure, ride every wave and remember to keep smiling and be happy.
